Williamson Carson & Co. Ltd was founded in 1986 to serve the insurance requirements of the Film, Entertainment and Photographic Industry. With nearly 40 years’ experience, managing director, Tom Carson is probably the longest serving Broker to the Photographic Industry in the UK. Tom has been working with the Association of Photographers since 1978. Tom also has very strong links with the Photographic Agents of London, the Association of Illustrators and many more within the creative industry.

Tom Carson served on the board of the Association of Photographers (AOP) between 2014 and 2018. The AOP Protects and promotes the best of professional photographers in the creative industries.


Tom Carson

Tom Carson is the managing director of Williamson Carson Insurance Brokers who were founded in 1986. Tom is also an independent director on the board of the Association of Photographers. Tom has been dealing with the Photographic Industry and AFAEP/AOP for 35 years. As well as photographers, he has very strong links with commercial film makers, photographic agents, stylists and stills producers.

Matthew Whinney

Matthew Whinney is a specialist media and technology insurance broker. Prior to insurance broking, Matthew spent 6 years at Hiscox Insurance Company as an underwriter in their city office, underwriting and advising a wide range of professions, from individual photographers to FTSE 250 companies.

Charlie Peters

Charlie Peters runs the photographic insurance department at Williamson Carson. Charlie joined Williamson Carson in 1996 and has been insuring and advising photographers for the past 21 years.

Our Production Insurance

We provide both annual and one-off job by job production / re-shoot cover for photographers, agents, stills producers, moving image makers, film and commercial producers. 

We offer two policies:

Commercial Producers Indemnity

  • Cast – the amount of loss directly resulting from an Insured Person being necessarily prevented for reasons beyond his or her control, from commencing, continuing or completing their respective duties on a Production.
  • Production Media – Physical loss of, damage to, or destruction of Production Media.
  • Extra Expenses – the amount of loss directly resulting from the interruption, postponement or cancellation of a Production as a direct and sole result of any reason beyond the control of the Insured.

Media Production Indemnity

  • Cast – cost to re-shoot following loss of the photographer and crew essential to the shoot who are in the original budget due to death, accident & illness.
  • Production Media – Physical loss of, damage to, or destruction of Production Media.
  • Extra Expenses – cost to re-shoot following loss or damage to essential equipment, props and location.

Both policies can include:

  • Third Party Costs
  • Own & Hired Equipment – including 13 weeks loss of hire
  • Props, Sets & Wardrobe
  • Shoot Cash
  • Public Liability & Employers Liability
