Camera Equipment Insurance

Williamson Carson and Co Ltd have provided camera equipment insurance since 1986. Over 33 years insuring the wide variety of cameramen, from documentary cameramen to commercial cameramen and all those in between. Handling thousands of camera equipment insurance claims over the years, there isn’t much we haven’t seen. Our team has a wealth of experience assisting cameramen and we like to chat, so if you have any questions, please pick up the phone.

In our experience no two cameramen are the same, so why should your camera equipment insurance be the same? We provide tailored camera equipment insurance for your business. Our camera equipment insurance packages are flexible, from equipment only, to wider packages including public liability, employers’ liability and professional indemnity.

  • Includes Accidental Camera Equipment Damage Cover
  • Worldwide Camera Equipment cover as standard – free of charge
  • Automatic Camera Equipment Hire Cover, whilst claim being dealt with
  • Includes cover in vehicles
  • Includes cover in Aircraft Holds
  • Includes damage by Airline Staff / Baggage Handlers

Public Liability is a must have for cameramen. In a short and sweet summary, public liability cover your legal liability for damage or injury in the course of your business. You won’t get very far without this type of policy nowadays. Most venues and locations will want to see evidence of your  public liability.

Please also remember it is a legal requirement to have Employers Liability cover to protect anyone you employ. This would include models, assistants, volunteers, those on work experience or anyone else under your care or control.

Professional Indemnity is more than ever a critical part of a camera equipment insurance package. The likelihood of copyright claims and disputes against cameramen is greater than ever.

The policy is designed to protect against any errors & omissions that may be made. Whilst the headline cover is ‘negligence or breach of duty of care’, it is the inclusion of intellectual property and copyright protection which is the deal breaker.

Don’t be tricked into purchasing a professional indemnity policy that is ‘negligence only’, it will not cover the primary risks. We know the detailed intricacies of the professional indemnity policies available. Many do not provide the cover required, we are happy to check your policy and help you through this minefield.

We have the unique ability to add re-shoot and production insurance to your camera equipment insurance policy. Very few of our competitors are able to provide additional production and reshoot insurance. With rapidly increasing production costs for shoots it is more important than ever for cameramen to protect themselves against re-shoot costs should they be unable to produce the required images due to reasons beyond their control.

We have a reshoot policy for cameramen designed using Chubb’s expertise in the film industry and Williamson Carson’s vast knowledge of the photographic industry.

Review from TrustPilot

The company has been handling insurance for my photographic business for a number of years during which time I have had to make two claims. Both times the claim has been handled with great efficiency, the latest being settled with payment agreed in 36 hours. You can’t ask for more than that. It gives me great peace of mind to know that any problems can be taken care of without additional worries following the accident. – Alexander James, Photographer

I've been dealing with Williamson Carson for over 20 years having been introduced to them through the Association of Photographers of which I'm a member. When I've had a claim, however complex, it has been dealt with quickly and efficiently and they very much work for you. They really understand the industry and just happen to be a great bunch of people to deal with.

Tom Carson & Williamson Carson have been my insurance brokers for over 15 years. The advice and cover they provides is both comprehensive and realistic. Tom's many years insuring the photographic and film industry means he is never fazed when I throw him last minute curve balls on shoots & on the 2 occasions I have needed my insurance it was dealt with swiftly & professionally. I highly recommend Tom and his team.
