WHAT IS A PUBLIC LIABILITY POLICY?
Public Liability covers you should you be sued for causing (by your negligence) injury to a third party or damage to third party property in the course of your business.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE PUBLIC LIABILITY?
As a Professional Photographer be it a Wedding, Commercial, Fashion or Advertising Photographer, you will inevitably encounter the general public.
Any member of the public is entitled to sue you should they feel you have caused them an injury or caused damage to their property. As well as any damages awarded, a Public Liability policy would pay the costs to defend your position.
You also need to remember that personnel on your shoot such as Hair & Make-up Artists, Stylists and certain other Freelancers are considered Third Parties and you, therefore, require a Public Liability Policy to cover any injury they might receive on location due to your negligence.
From a commercial point of view all studios and locations you might want to hire will require you to have Public Liability to protect them against any damage you might cause to their property.
